Mission

“Christ has no hands, no feet on earth but yours.” (Teresa of Avila)

At First Presbyterian Church, we are passionate about putting flesh to our faith by serving this world. Our Session has committed to ensuring that at least 10% of our annual budget goes toward mission efforts, including supporting the work of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in the United States and around the world. We support local organizations through benevolence commitments and by volunteering alongside one another at various ministries around town.

Owensboro Multicultural Festival

For more than 20 years, our church has hosted an annual Multicultural Festival on our church lawn, where we celebrate God’s gift of diversity. Community members from various countries, culture groups and faiths are invited to share their particular offerings, whether at a booth, through live performances, or through cuisine. The Multicultural Festival has truly become a treasure in the Owensboro community, and we are grateful for the opportunity to host it each year.

We are a Matthew 25 Church

First Presbyterian Church has signed on to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s Matthew 25 initiative. This means that we have committed ourselves to active engagement in the world in three areas: building congregational vitality, dismantling structural racism, and eradicating systemic poverty. Learn more about Matthew 25 at pcusa.org/matthew25.

In 2020, we developed an Anti-Racism Task Force that is active in addressing issues of racial injustice in the church and larger community.

Mission Through Partnership

Throughout the year, we partner with nonprofits, schools, and other organizations doing the work of building God’s kingdom. This includes financial support and hands-on volunteer efforts with organizations such as the Daniel Pitino Shelter, St. Benedict’s Homeless Shelter, The International Center of Kentucky, The Help Office, Living Waters for the World, Habitat for Humanity, Matthew 25 AIDS Services, and many more. We invest our money, time, and facilities in combating poverty, homelessness, hunger, and other injustices.
